Design Vision for Social Luxury
Located in the growing suburb of Athurugiriya, this project redefines residential living by merging the comfort of a family home with the sophisticated atmosphere of a private club. Spanning 3,200 square feet across three levels, the Akalanka Residence is being designed for a client who envisions a home that is as much a social sanctuary as it is a private retreat.
The Architectural Vision
The “Club House” concept centers on the seamless integration of the swimming pool with the primary living and entertainment zones. The three-story structure utilizes verticality to create distinct “moods” on each floor—ranging from high-energy social spaces on the ground level to serene, private sanctuaries on the upper tiers. Large glass facades and open-air balconies are planned to ensure the pool remains a visual centerpiece from every floor.

• The Poolside Lounge: A ground-floor layout designed for hosting, where the interior living area flows directly onto a deck surrounding a sleek, modern swimming pool.
• Triple-Story Elegance: A design that maximizes the 12-perch plot by stacking luxury, ensuring ample space for four large bedrooms and specialized entertainment zones.
• Club House Aesthetic: The use of bold structural lines, ambient lighting, and premium finishes to evoke the feeling of a high-end boutique lounge.

The Vision
Mr. Rukshan Akalanka’s vision was clear: he wanted a home that broke the mold. His requirement was for a 4-bedroom residence that functioned like a private club a place where the pool, the lounge, and the architecture worked in harmony to create a continuous “vacation” feel at home.
The Challenge
The primary challenge in the design stage is balancing the structural requirements of a 3-story building with the need for wide-open, “column-free” entertainment spaces. At Apexes, we are currently navigating these complexities to ensure the final build offers the structural integrity of a fortress with the aesthetic lightness of a modern pavilion.
